Our Curriculum

The curriculum of the Berlin School of Siu Lam Wing Chun is based on the Wing Chun of Fung Siu Cing, of the Tang Family and Jip Man.

Starting from Hong Kong the families attained great fame in the whole world during the middle of the last century. Especially Jip Man was early known as he was the teacher of Bruce Lee. He is regarded to be the first official teacher of Wing Chun in Hong Kong (1950).

Less well known is the fact that Tang Syun already taught the Siu Lam Wing Chun in 1910 in Hong Kong, after leaving his hometown Nam Hoi, near the city of Faatsan. Later, however, he returned there.

His son Tang Yik also moved to Hong Kong after the second world war and taught Siu Lam Wing Chun on the first floor of a poultry shop, the Dai Dak Lan. Also other teachers were there. They called Zyu Zung Man, he was the eldest, Lo Ciu Wun and Taam Gong. They could train together, exchange ideas and teach to a few, well-chosen students. Jip Man was occasionally visiting.

Sifu Sam Lau, direct disciple of Jip Man today is Chairman of the Ip Man Martial Arts Athletic Association, which was founded in October 1972, shortly before Jip Man passed away. Sifu Michael Tang already learned from his granduncle Tang Yik in 1968. He was determined by Tang Yik to be his successor. He was left with countless video recordings and documents, as well as an audio recording about the origin and practice of Siu Lam Wing Chun, with the order to carry the family heritage into the future with responsibility.

Peter Scholz opened the Berlin School of Siu Lam Wing Chun in 2010 and he is a direct student of Michael Tang Sifu and of Sam Lau Sifu. His task as he sees it is to teach the Wing Chun in its traditional, unchanged way, to save the continued existence of a martial art that nowadays often is misused and changed because of people making profit and other reasons.

In Siu Lam Wing Chun there are no grandmasters and no secrets.

"Training is one of the most neglected phases of athletics."
- Bruce Lee
