Muk Jan Zong

Muk Jan Zong

Muk Jan Zong

The Muk Jan Zong (木人樁) is the training device, if no partner is available. The name means "Wooden Man Stake" (Wooden Dummy). We practice the Wooden Dummy form of the Tang Family.

The Wooden Dummy form was the only set that was taught by Zi Sin on the Red Boat. At this time there were not yet special handforms, because the performance of the North Shaolin forms was not possible on the Red Boat. Forms from the Shaolin Temple include jump and turning kicks, wide stances and wide hand techniques. The execution of these forms was not possible on a boat with the limited space.

muk6 jan4 zong1 is the standardized form of the Roman transcription according to Jyutping Cantonese.
Further notations: Muk Yan Jong, Muk Jan Jong, Muk Yan Chong
