Yi Jin Jing (易筋經, book for the transformation of muscles and tendons) is a collection of exercises to maintain health and to increase fitness. The earliest descriptions of exercises reach back almost 2000 years. In the 1970s, a brocade painting was discovered entitled charts for physical exercises and breathing exercises in an old grave in the central Chinese city of Changsha. In the 40 illustrations the prototype of today's Yi Jin Jing exercises can be identified. It is also supposed that the Yi Jin Jing was developed by the Buddhist monk Bodhidharma who originally came from India.
